Jacob Husak

Jacob Husak defines design through foresight, intention, and evolution. A practice born from the belief that truly disruptive design creates a market instead of building for one.

With 7+ years of multidisciplinary design experience, Jacob Husak has created innovative solutions for clients ranging from local brands to startups to industry leaders and government entities. All with one goal in mind.

Good design solves problems. Great design obsoletes them.

Lunchbox Hydropacks
Info
Hydration Sling
Anti-theft zipper routing, hidden pockets, and a discreet hydration system for festivals or everyday wear. This pack solves two problems, and the second one nobody was solving.

Joined the design process mid-development and carried it through factory handoff. Every panel seam, every zipper location had to work against an adversarial user while staying invisible to the actual owner. DFM reviews, sample iterations, supplier negotiation, full lifecycle.

Extra Storage Skin
An external storage expansion designed for the Lunchbox hydration pack. It attaches via a dedicated zipper interface, giving riders a clean, secure way to add volume without replacing the bag they already love.

The face of the skin is designed to accept Lunchbox's cosmetic skin system, so users keep full access to bag art and personalization even with the extra storage attached.

Hyperfan
The Hyperfan is a live consumer product, not a concept. The role here was sourcing the right manufacturer, testing samples for quality and consistency, and building the brand identity around a product that needed to stand out in a crowded category.

Brand direction, product photography strategy, packaging positioning, and go-to-market framing. From factory sample to shelf.

Ashen Vanity
Harnessing a blowtorch and a chainsaw angle-grinder disk, Ashen was hatched from countless late nights in the studio spent attempting to create something "perfect". Ashen explores the concept of imperfection within design: the beauty found in a mishap or two, and the trap of a mindset locked in pursuit of something unattainable.

Noba Social Lounge
Noba draws its form from the Norse symbol of Odin's eye, a single, all-seeing point from which everything radiates outward. That idea drove the design: a social lounge chair conceived for open spaces, for the kind of seating that pulls people together rather than pointing them at a screen.

The elliptical silhouette creates a natural enclosure without walls, a shape that signals collaboration. The MIG-welded steel frame is left exposed, its weld seams visible and intentional. In partnership with HBF Textiles, who provided the velvet upholstery, the piece sets cold structural steel against something warm and tactile.

Built entirely by hand in the university fabrication lab.

Mali Pro Shinguard
The brief: a shinguard that disappears while protecting. Carbon fiber is stiff and unforgiving, it protects by being rigid. This goes the other way.

A Voronoi lattice based on bird-bone trabecular microstructure: maximum surface area, minimum material, continuous airflow. Produced via SLS nylon, a process that allows internal geometries impossible with any other method. Dense where impact happens, open everywhere else. Lighter than carbon fiber. More breathable than anything on the market.

Hydro Pack Series
Four SKUs. Twelve months. Every decision a negotiation between what the product needed and what the budget could hold.

BOM management, supplier sourcing, factory liaison, DFM review, full lifecycle alongside the CEO. Per-unit cost down 15% by the third sample round. Four distinct configurations, each launched to shelf. Not concepts. Products that sold.

NC OPPS Booth
Exhibition design is spatial design under a deadline. You design the structure, then you become the contractor, and the gap between drawing something and building it is where you find out what you actually know.

Spatial layout, material selection, structural fabrication, and on-site installation at Outdoor Retailer, the largest outdoor industry trade show in North America. Built for Mountain BizWorks' NC OPPS program. Earned floor space against brands with six-figure booth budgets. Built on craft and resourcefulness.

A lighting experiment. Born from a joke about a cinderblock and a light switch, Bloc merges the playful allure of a simple concrete block and toggle switch with an imposing brutalist architectural shade.

Bud.e
Bud.e checks in on the child first. Through its emotional display, it prompts children to reflect on how they're feeling and offers simple strategies to help them regulate when they're struggling. It meets them where they are.

It also communicates its own needs — soil moisture, light, water — so children learn to read and respond to something outside themselves. Two-way care. The child tends to the plant, the plant tends to the child, and both are better for it.

Info
Patient Specific Implants
700+ patient-specific orthopedic implants designed for surgical teams at Restor3d. Each implant begins as a CT scan and ends as a geometry tailored to the individual's anatomy, no two pieces identical.

Designed in SolidWorks with Materialize 3matic for additive manufacturing. Working directly with surgeons meant understanding anatomical constraints, surgical approach vectors, and fixation requirements, a different kind of industrial design.
